After Bobb Munchies

The Music Which Filled North Campus at Northwestern University During My College Years from 1985 - 1989

When I got to campus at Northwestern in September 1985, I was confronted by Frat Parties! Most of my musical experience during high school revolved around Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, maybe a little upbeat Police. Even though I did listen to some pop songs, I mostly hung out with the "boys". So I had no idea how to dance. So half the time at those parties during New Student Week, I would run back to my dorm room at Elder Hall embarrassed to try my feet on the dance floor. I listened to a lot of The Wall in a darkened room.

Over time, though, the infectious New Wave music of the 1980s filtered into my blood, and even made it down to my feet. In time, most of my group of friends from freshman year filtered into fraternities. A good number at "delt" (Delta Tau Delta)- including my freshman year roommate and best friend, Jon Hussey. The rest, including myself, at ATO (Alpha Tau Omega). Social life on campus around that time revolved around the fraternity parties on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights...of course mostly after midnight when the Libes closed. Bobb Hall had the most famous of the "munchies", a dorm-sponsored pre-party before heading out to the fraternities.

Apart from my own memories, a good portion of this playlist is from a list Brent Peebles posted on his Facebook page trying to remember the playlist at DTD, which invariably ended the night with AC/DC.
