Stockholm and Norway

Updated: Dec 19, 2019

Straight from the Courthouse to O'Hare, on my first trip as an official Bachelor in April 2018.

So yeah. After Sameena and I created our Marital Settlement Agreement, on April 10, 2018 I stood in front of the judge. It was a lot less dramatic than I had imagined. From the DuPage County Courthouse, I headed to O'Hare Airport. Settling into my seat on WOW! Air [now out of business], I was on my way to Stockholm.

It's a pretty city. However, I had a lot of emotions about being alone. I had always enjoyed traveling. Growing up, we had no other family here in the US, so we were flying back to India frequently. By the time I got to college, I realized I could slip in stopovers on the way to/from India. I got the travel bug, bad.

Married, we had great trips. Before kids, we Eurailed through Italy and France. Then we had a great two week driving trip through Spain. After kids, we went nearly every summer on fascinating trips with Nawawi Foundation- China, Morocco, Syria, Jordan, and Jerusalem.

Now I was traveling on my own. Gamlastan- Old Stockhom- was nice enough, but I kind of wanted to show somebody around. Meals especially felt depressing. I ended up eating at Arab fast food places mostly, late at night. I did enjoy going for runs in the mornings. Now Norway was beautiful. I felt being around the natural beauty of the stunning landscape kept me distracted and not caring about being alone. The other thing I liked about Norway was the continued connection with their Viking forebears. I had loved Norse mythology and Viking culture as I grew up, so I was excited to see things I had read about in books.
